Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita sounds like you are having a more positive experience at the centre than I did when I was going to a mental health drop-in centre up here a few years ago.  The cooking classes were really good but there were mostly people there who I tried and failed to communicate with for various reasons, including a couple who acted really darkly and inappropriately and the staff didn't handle it properly. Am remembering so much of it right now.  I eventually fell out with one of the staff and then she made things very difficult for me.  I haven't been back, tho maybe after such a long break it might be worth giving it another try.  I will give it some thought.  Unfortunately that same person was also the co-ordinator of GROW so that didn't work out for me either.  She was a very controlling, domineering personality and never showed empathy in my experience.  I don't know what she was doing in that line of work.

On a lighter note,  I love learning more about cooking.  I like watching cooking shows on TV and now there is a whole chanel of them on free TV, chanel 33.  I also google things and print out recipes to try, spending time planning shopping lists and giving things a try.  Sure, you get some fails, but you always learn from them.  One really yummy egg brekky you might like to google is ranchos hueveros - easy to make and good for any time of day really.  If you like mexican!  There are versions with or without chorizo sausage.

Re: Night Shift

@eth,

I know what you mean about how it can sometimes be scary when some people with mental health issues behave quite darkly in real life. I've experienced this especially in one of the support groups at times. I'm also personally not a fan of anything based on the 12 steps as I find it too dogmatic and, as you say, leaning towards controlling and absolute in its doctrines. That program is only one part of what is run at this centre, which I find really helpful with some of its other programs. I don't spend a lot of time there and don't participate in it as a 'hang out' at all. I also make myself anonymous there by never signing in with my full name. Overall though I'd say it is a good community resource.

With the cooking, I tend to avoid cooking shows (and TV in general really). Much more of a net gal. It's early days in overcoming my huge lifelong mental block about cooking yet but I remain hopeful that there can be improvements over time.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita Taste.com is a good website (although linked to Coles).. It has masses of recipes and you can choose the simple ones.

I'm winding down again now and will go again and see if I can sleep. Hope you get some more too.  It's been nice chatting with you, as always.  Nite nite.

Re: Night Shift

Nighty night, @eth. Peaceful dream time to you. Smiley Happy

Re: Night Shift

Good morning @Faith-and-Hope How are you today?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth

Even though I am alone a lot I don't feel lonely either - there is always plenty to do - I bought myself an electronic piano keyboard a few weeks ago and I enjoy playing that - it will take a lot of practise to get back to where I was when I had a piano - I may never get back to that point - but the thing is how relaxing it is to play it - even if I just play around with the melody and block chords

It sounds as if you had an interesting birthday - 2 hours with your doctor and an early dinner with your main man - sounds pretty good.

I wish you the best with this cold/flu/throat problem you have going atm - and all this cooking!! Oh yes - when we are alone a lot cooking for one can become boring - I do like salads though - I eat a lot of them

And with your new medication - let's hope you don't have trouble changing or whatever happens when you get something new -

Re: Night Shift

Good morning, @eth. Looks like we were both moderated in the night while we were sleeping. That's okay except that the usual process didn't work and my post is completely lost, which is no big deal really. I think we both probably got to read them in email notifications before they were taken down anyway. In other news, I had another disturbing dream after I went to sleep. Seems that, as soon as I say they are abated, they return! Hope you had a better time in your second sleep.

Re: Night Shift

Good morning @eth

I am so glad you enjoyed your day yesterday 😊 I was thinking of you ❤️

I am okay within myself, but still quite concerned about my daughter.  She needs to go in to school this morning and sit a test she missed yesterday.  She has committed to the school counsellor that she will do it, but I have no guarantee that she will stick with that.

She is suffering a lot of physical ailments, but her emotional distress is impacting her in such a way that they appear far more intensified to her, and quite likely a means of escape from the mounting responsibilities she doesn't want to face.

It's a bit heartbreaking to see her try to wrap herself up in physical pain to try to shut out the emotional pain we are going through, and that's where she looks like she might need the help of a psychologist t to be able to discern for herself what she is doing.

It is a natural response that so many of us are familiar with, and it takes those baby steps (and often loving helping hands) to help you step back out of that shell, when and as you can.

I hope that is not too hard on your ears.  You have suffered so much, but you are also so compassionate and understanding.  In sharing this side of our struggles with you, I hope soon to be sharing successes too, and telling you how it is all sorting out.

That hope is my focus.  It was never going to be easy, but it is changing, as things do when you take courage and persevere.

Be well, my friend 😊  I hope you have another lovely day 💌 ... ❤️

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Angels333

I'm sorry it was a heart attack and I wish you all th best for the stress test.

Did you go to hospital when you had the heart - I was there with chest pain years ago and they did a lot of ECGs so I know I didn't have a heart attack

But I do hope everything goes well for you

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Decadian yes it's all very uncertain.

I did go to hospital as I though it was gallbladder pain. They discharged me with the plan to follow up on blood tests in a week as my liver function test were really high. They didn't do an ecg as everyone was convinced it was gallbladder.

I went to the gp after a week and she redid the liver . They were very high so douglass halt moir automatically ordered a ck test t hr r figures were supposed to be under 150 and mine were 1185! Another heart enzyme was ldh and It should be under 250 and mine were 350.

Any way I sent an inage to my psychiatristof th ed results and he said go straight back to the er for an ecg. The ecg was normal, but ut was 10 days since the event by then. I went to the cardiologist and I have pericarditis around my heart which can be evidence of heart attack.

So I have the stress test today.
