Hello Good morning and Good evening everyone

Re: Hello Good morning and Good evening everyone

Hello 🙂

Re: Hello Good morning and Good evening everyone

Hello @YTT and welcome to the forums 🙂

Re: Hello Good morning and Good evening everyone

And I’m sorry to hear things have gotten worse with your daughter at the moment @YTT .... it sucks when there seems to be improvement, then a slide back.

@Former-Member has quotes before, that even three steps forward and two back is still a forward motion ....

Re: Hello Good morning and Good evening everyone

Hi YTT and everyone
i have just joined the forum. I care for my mother and am at a really low point right now. She has been here, in my home, for 6 months. I am 62 and she is 83. I can't identify specific incidents but the stress is really getting to me. Her memory gets worse everyday but she thinks its getting better, she does the opposite to anything I suggest and gets teary and/or overly dramatic if I disagree with her. I could really benefit from any suggestions. School holidays have just started and I already wish I was back at work.

Sorry to hear that you are stressed. Are you receiving any at home assistance? Has your mother been ACAT assessed? Sounds like you might need to get some support, sending hugs your way.

@Helen2017

I'm sorry you are going through this, have you got a carer advocate? I have one through One Door Mental health and in the beginning she was really good at pointing me in the right direction. I don't really open up much these days because my mental health has taken a battering and I don't want to admit that to her.

They were awesome and came to my workplace, we'd go to the local cafe and she would check up on me and bring me pamphlets, explain what was going on and what services I could access etc. I go to their organised carer meet ups when possible - sadly it's during work hours so I can't always go. I did almost cry the first time I went because I was surrounded by people in the same situation as me.

I was referred to One Door Mental Health via Child and Adolescent Health that is looking after my daughter.

Re: Hello Good morning and Good evening everyone

Hi @Helen2017 @Kreagor @YTT ......

Welcome to the forums Helen 👋🌷

Here is another avenue to try. They can put you in touch with people in your own state for support, and perhaps respite.

http://www.carersaustralia.com.au

Carer’s burnout is a real thing, as is situational depression as a result. It is very important as a carer to maintain awareness of your own mental health and access support and self-care.

I am on the move today, but will check back in later ......

Take care -
F&H

Hi @Faith-and-Hope

Thank you for thinking of me 🙂

I occasionally glance in, but don't really get into the hunting for threads.

Wishing you and everyone on here a very happy and safe New Year.

Hoping 2018 is memorable for all the good reasons 🙂
