Night Shift

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member you are brave almost beyond belief, in my book.  good on you, brave lady!  no, no-one is 'normal', everyone is out-of-control, or gets some sort of bout of mental illness or some period of severe disorder at some point/s in their lives, but we're the ones with the label.

Labels ... i might do a 'campbell's soup tin' warholian series of paintings on mental illness, not!  i didn't actually even work on my ikebana last week, although i bought the silver spray paint for it.

i really can't wait until mental illness is passe.

Re: Night Shift

Hi all 🙂 I've been reading and lurking for a few days trying to stop myself from reacting to some posts I've read but I can't help myself now...

I'd like to ask you, @Terry, a question? Do you think some of the stuff you say towards 'normal' people and the stigma you hold against them is any better than the stigma we, as people with mental illnesses, are exposed to? I've certainly been very privleged to have some amazing 'normal' people in my life and really what's to say they won't experience some sort of mental illness down the track. After all the rate of people who suffer from depression and anxiety at some point in their life is quite high... Perhaps I have read 1 in 4? I also don't believe every workplace holds prejudice towards those with mental illness. Yes I know there are plenty that do, and reading stories such as @Mazarita disgust me that she had to experience that but there are also plenty that aren't. If (please note I say if as it may not happen) horrible comments are made about people with mental illness in your next job why don't you take them time to challenge their views. You may or may not choose to share your own lived experience but it doesn't mean you can't have a good, healthy discussion about it.
I really enjoy what you have to say @Terry and think you have some great things to share but I honestly couldn't help myself tonight.

@Former-Member - I'm glad to hear your first week has been a good one, albeit tiring. How has your little boy gone at school?

@Shaz51 I'm only on my phone so can't see your pictures (and the notifications I get from sane doesn't show them) but I look forward to logging onto my computer to see them. 🙂

@Mazarita congratulations on your work! I look forward to hearing all about it! Good on you!

@Jacques, @PeppiPatty, @appleblossum, @Terry @Mazarita @Shaz51 I hope you have all had a good week. 🙂

Re: Night Shift

nah not brave but if i dont try and tell people (who have no lived experience) the reality of being poor, growing up in crisis following crisis, and being affected by that daily would just leave me infuriated...

Re: Night Shift

@Billamba  Bill, my jokes about 'normal' people are a bit tongue-in-cheek - i'm trying to sort of poke fun a the prejudices and self-stigma.

i hate to say it but i've copped discrimination in every job i've ever had, some of it extremely vehement.  sorry.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member yes, you are brave, lisajane.

Re: Night Shift

@Billamba your good. I've been meaning to write something to @Terry (hi Terry) too.

I think @Terry, you are first boat.jpg highly triggered.

My husband is leacturing me on reacting and Im not allowed to contact my Mum this weekend. I was about to write to her and tell her what I thought of her.....then...all #$%#$% will break loose so....thanks for thelping me stay on track @Billamba

Re: Night Shift

@PeppiPatty thank you Peppi, that is something i didn't know about myself, although it stands to reason, considering what i DO know about myself.  have you any advice for me on the topic?  i presume 'highly triggered' means very knee-jerk-reactive?  and, if so, as i said, have you any advice as it's an area i probably should work on, given its nature.
