Night Shift

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @PeppiPatty.

I do cry.

The kids and I have a wicked sense of humour too, so we fall about laughing sometimes.

We support each other as much as we can.

Sometimes we talk about it.  Other times we can't talk about it - it's too raw.

I have told a close circle of friends, and I can laugh and cry with them too.  There are funny moments, and silly moments in the mix.

I go for walks.

I go for foot massages sometimes.

I get my nails painted.

I listen to music.

This has been coming on for about five years now.  My mum taught me how important it is to look after yourself in the midst of whatever is going on in the family.  She was a very wise woman and I miss her.

This issue has brought me here to you, on the forums, and I am glad to know you all ❤️

Thanks @eth

Aaaghh the sleep demon!

I am going to do a bit of music and then will pop back and see how the discussion about resilience i!s going.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Faith-and-Hope 🙂

I feel for you guys. Hypermobility is a constant source of pain. I am currently carrying an inflamed achilees tendon (for the past 11 months or so), two swollen and sore knuckles (for the past 15 months or so), a constantly dodgy shoulder... I dislocated my jaw during a bad dream about 2 weeks ago, and that's only just settling down now...

Sending gentle hugs. Hahaha... I once stuffed my wrist for months by bending it too far, getting a 1 litre carton of milk out of the fridge... it's a constant effort of Mindfulness... don't move too far, or it's months of pain and hot inflammation... 🙂

But hey... it is what it is... huggles...

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Silenus

Two of my kids have an issue with their jaw sometimes, and hand writing causes cramps in the hands for all of them because you have to apply a lot of pressure to the pen to compensate. Rolled ankles and tendinitis are common for all of us.  And my husband at the moment, with all his over-excercising, is a mess of constant injuries 😕

Something we have learned about hypermobility is that you have to try to slowly and gently build muscle strength to help compensate for loose ligaments.  If you don't, if you remain inactive, the condition worsens.  Pilates is recommended, or swimming is good because it is supportive of body weight.

Even small, light hand-weights, walking, gentle leg-lifts, anything you can do to keep your muscle strength is valuable.

Hope that helps you ...

Re: Night Shift

That's what I've found too... go out too keen, and it's months of pain and slow recovery...

It's been a great way to slow down my bipolar excesses... hahaha...

Re: Night Shift

Today nearly got the better of me. So I put on my mask and smiled my way through another incredibly boring day. I have however managed to make a couple of moves to start expressing my concerns about the very unprofessional processes thst eere undertaken.
It wss better to act than allow myself go under. Tomorrow could prove interesting.

Re: Night Shift

@Appleblossom The discussion on Topic Tuesday//Resilience as a response to discrimination was excellent.  The guest co-ordinator was from QLife and some of the discussion was comparing LGBTI issues to MH issues so it was particularly good for me.

How's your night going?

Re: Night Shift

@eth tonight has been good. I wriggled out of cooking tea as my son made some late egg and pork jaffles.  I was happy with a sandwich, yoghurt and fruit.  We have to watch weight and he doesnt stop so I feel obliged to limit food intake a bit.

We had a good singing session.  He was doing Elgar and Rachmaninov choral pieces, and I was heartened as he was finally getting the hang of singing soft and swelling his voice louder.  He used to just argue that he couldnt do it and wouldnt try, but this music is so good, it demands that he be musical.Woman Happy

I played a bit of a Bach fantasia. Trying to keep a bit more contact with piano as I had let him push me out of playing it ... learning to put those boundaries in place ...

@Silenus and @Faith-and-Hope I have issues with hypermobility.  I wonder if it is also exacerbated by carrying around all the stress and intensity that we do.  It used to be worst on my neck and wrists.  But lately also the knees ... falling apart .. never mind ... life has been good for me today.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom

Yes, I believe hypermobility is exacerbated by stress.  I am not medically trained, but I suspect stress-response cortisol plays havoc with it somehow.

More reason to breathe deeply and count to ten over all the smaller stuff 😏

Re: Night Shift

Yeah my experience is such that I have rarely sweated the small stuff.

Went out yesterday to pick up son after busking.  The door was left open and the screen door too as he is always carting keyboard in and out and I forgot to slam door after me. I sometimes have made being queen of vague into a virtue .. is it carelessness, absentmindedness, or did I just have to vague out the non essential to simply survive. I know I do care ..

Your posts are lovely, intelligent and down to earth.  It is great having you on the forum.

Just wondering how you are going @Decadian havent seen you posting for a few days.
